In Smart Parenting Magazine Once Again

Smart Parenting magazine included my short parenting POV and thoughts in their November issue. For three consecutive months, starting Septembe 2009, my parenting views were published in Smart Parenting.

I shared a brief note on the Parent's Point of View Section on the topic about buying preschoolers a handheld video game and another for the Last Thoughts section for the topic on how to get kids help at home. I love it when my views were published together with other moms. I am just proud to be on Smart Parenting.

The Design and Feel

Asus Eee PC 1008HA design is inspired by the curves of a seashell which gives it a clean and distinct appearance. It is sleek-looking with a high gloss finish that makes it smudge-free. It is just 2.4 lbs light and measures an inch at its thickest point (which is quarter of an inch thicker than the Macbook Air). I feel comfortable bringing this anywhere.

The keyboard, which is 92% of a full sized keyboard, is extremely satisfying to use. The Wi-Fi and touchpad on/off buttons is just above the keyboard. Its chrome rocker button and unique dimple-laden trackpad supports multi-touch gestures responds with a firm click.

This Asus Eee PC Seashell has a smooth side since all the ports are hidden behind those tiny flaps. It is where the USB ports, mic, headphone, mini VGA and Ethernet ports are located. On the underside of the netbook sits the VGA adapter dongle.

Halloween 2009 Parties and Events

Halloween and costume parties are now over. I am just fascinated how my kids had so much fun dressing up as a Geisha and a Dinosaur. They wore these costumes three times -at the Fun Ranch Halloween Event, at Glorietta Mall Funtastic Carnival and Trick or Treat, and at their school's Costume Party. They really had a blast taking part in these activities!

It is always good to see my kids had fun at school. All the kids look so cute in their costumes. Each kid played games and was given loot afterwards. The games are just simple and appropriate for the preschoolers. There was even a parent and child game. Everyone one wins and had so much fun!

It was the first time that we had our trick or treat at Glorietta as we frequent Megamall's halloween activity. We did not realize there would be so much kids and adults at this event. The lines are long when we arrived and it is only a few minutes after 10 am! Good enough that the kids got their loot bags, treats and much more. I was even lucky hearing my name in the raffle contest!

Efren Peñaflorida gives Filipino youth an alternative to gang membership through education. His Dynamic Teen Company's 10,000 members have taught basic reading and writing to 1,500 kids living in the slums.

I just voted for Efren Peñaflorida in the CNN Hero of the Year. He is one of the Top 10 Heroes for 2009. CNN feature shares Peñaflorida's remarkable story:

For the past 12 years, Peñaflorida and his team of teen volunteers have taught basic reading and writing to children living on the streets. Their main tool: A pushcart classroom.

Stocked with books, pens, tables and chairs, his Dynamic Teen Company recreates a school setting in unconventional locations such as the cemetery and municipal trash dump.

Peñaflorida knows firsthand the adversity faced by these children. Born into a poor family, he lived in a shanty near the city dump site. But he says he refused to allow his circumstances to define his future.

"Instead of being discouraged, I promised myself that I would pursue education," he recalls. "I will strive hard; I will do my best."

CNN’s heroes are ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary deeds. Although I have only voted for Efren Peñaflorida, each one is a hero for they all serve and help others wholeheartedly. They have all made a difference in the people's lives. They are indeed exceptional!

Ballet Philippines and Belle De Jour Fair in Just One Day

Attending two different events in just one day could be tiring, but the time spent had been really worthwhile.

It's amazing watching a musical journey for free together with my daughter, my mommy-lola (grandma), my sisters, my sister-in-law and my niece.

The show begins with Venezuelan piano music in the international ballet classic "Our Waltzes," which features the choreography of world-renowned Venezuelan dancer Vicente Nebrada.

This famed neo-classical dance has aspects that can be compared to ballroom dancing infused with Latin influences, which shows graceful and lilting movements, and the theme of romantic waltzing of love explored.

The show culminates in a contemporary production of Alice Reyes' groundbreaking pop-rock opera ballet, "Tales of the Manuvu" which features the OPM hit song, "Noong Unang Panahon." This is based on the Manobo myth of creation.

Acclaimed singers (Robert Sena, Guji Lorenzana , Banaue Miclat, etc.), soloists from the UP Concert Chorus and the Makiling rock band performs to tell a tale that touches on our origins, our nationhood, our love of and appreciation for the primal powers of nature, our mortality and the separation of Heaven and Earth.
