My Kids' Achievements

I'm grateful that my kids value education. I'm proud of their achievements - no matter how small it may seem.

The twinkle in my preschoolers' eyes everytime he shows me the star that the teacher stamped on his hands seems to be the brightest one. Every "very good" words that he heard from his teacher gave him more confidence.

The eagerness in my daughter's voice whenever she learn new Mandarin words or create origami is indeed priceless. All her daily sharings such as, "I got a perfect quiz score...", "I'll be a butterfly for the Christmas program!" or even "sayang, mali yung answer ko..." and much more, are all worth listening to!

Last week, I received their 2nd Quarter Progress Card. The grades and the character evaluation makes me more prouder... not just because of the high marks, but more so, because I know how much they value learning.

My daughter, a grade 2 student, ranked first in class.
My preschooler got high letter grades as well.

They learn differently. They both have strong and weak areas that needs improvement, but there isn't pressure.

They are young and I let them enjoy life to the fullest. There are no strict rules since being responsible counts more than that. They even play toys and computer games, watch TV and even jokes around everyday! Letting them realize what their priorities are, makes way for  better growth.

Learning is enjoyably-fun-and-important! I prayed that they would continuously value it as they continue their journey.

I'm proud of my kids and will always be!

Info about Puerto Princesa Subterranean River:

"The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is located about 50 km north of the city of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. It features a limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2 km. navigable underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea. It includes major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers. The lower portion of the river is subject to tidal influences. The underground river is reputed to be the world's longest. At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed by ancient trees growing right to the water's edge. Monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels find their niche on the beach near the cave."

Barbie Doll Becomes Celebrity For a Day (or Two)

Skylah as Barbie doll

My daughter is Barbie Doll during the Halloween!

She enjoyed being a Barbie doll since Barbie dolls are among her favorite toys. She won't mind receiving Barbie dolls as gifts and she still plans to buy and keeps on wishing to have more. I lost count how many Barbie dolls she already have (maybe more than 20).

October had been a busy month for my kids. There's weekend ballet practice and recital dress rehearsals, quarterly school exams and United Nations programs practice, plus family trips and activities! That left us with no time to think about and prepare for their Halloween costume. We didn't even have plans to join mall Trick or Treats!

Five days before their school Halloween party, we started to think what they'll going to wear, and borrowed a horse's back (from my husband's cousin) so my son Brent can be Centaur! (I'll be posting about his costume too)

An idea came to mind! Since my daughter Skylah would just wear her ballet tutu, I thought of dressing her up as Barbie Doll!

We made a pink Barbie box, cut some holes, fastened garters at the back so she can carry the box at her back, printed the Barbie words and Mattel logo, and of course, her picture!

School Halloween Party

From the moment our Barbie Doll stepped out of the car and walk on school grounds, we've already heard several students saying, "that's cute," "wow it's Barbie!"... which continued until she reached her classroom. Her teachers and classmates loved her Barbie costume too!

Our Barbie Doll was well applauded when she get on stage. She even won as The Most Funniest Costume (for Grades 1-3 division)!

Funniest Costume Finalists (Grades 1-3)

Several students also took pictures with her!

When she came back, she told me, "mommy ang daming nagpicture sa 'kin!" That's how happy she was!

RFR Halloween Party and Trick or Treat

It was a Saturday and after ballet practice, we joined RFR's Halloween Party and Trick or Treat again since the kids really enjoyed going door-to-doors to ask for treats!

Again, my daughter was dressed-up as Barbie Doll!

I can't believe that village residences also took pictures of her. They were really delighted to see a walking Barbie doll!

Pictures while on parade.

More pictures inside the clubhouse.

Our Barbie Doll happily smiled for them.

Best thing is, she won Best in Costume for girls category!

Best in Costume Finalists (Girls)

my prize :)

Mums and Tubs Club Halloween Cutie Contest

Recently, her picture also won at Mums and Tubs Club contest in Facebook. Good enough that it's not a liking contest.

If only I had anticipated that our Barbie Doll in her DIY Barbie doll would be well received, we would have joined in Trick or Treat and Halloween parties in the malls and hotels. Well, but that would be too tiresome and it might ruin the purpose of enjoying the event.

I'm glad that my daughter had been at her happiest!

UN Celebration 2011: The Silk Road to Peace and Prosperity

Malaysia and Japan

My kids school celebrated United Nations with the theme "The Silk Road to Peace and Prosperity." Their cultural presentation emphasizes and interpreted the relationship of China with the rests of the world.

The program starts with the preschoolers as they represent each countries. They happily march on stage and carried their flags proudly as they sing, "It's a Small World!"

It's a Small World
My son represented the country of Malaysia, while my niece and nephew represented the countries of Australia and Canada. They love being in their costumes!

The celebration continues as each grade and year level students showcases dances from different countries.

The Grade 5 students and teachers carried the benevolent Chinese dragon.

My sister enjoyed being one of the Chinese fan dancers!

"Merchants traveled to Africa (the birthplace of humanity) to trade for rare timbers, gold, ivory, exotic animals and spices.

"In one way or another, the South Pacific Islands were influenced by the Chinese..."

"... Through 'cultural triangles,' nations were able to share their wealth and learn to tolerate indifferences."

"In India, the Chinese traded their silk and ceramics for precious stones."

"The Venetian Marco Polo served in the Chinese Emperor's court. He brought west to the east, and upon returning to Europe, brought the East to the West."

"A Chinatown in any country is evidence that China has sent her ambassadors to make peace with the rest of the world."

Here in the Philippines, "Chinese influence extended up to the Colonial times, when Manila became the stopover of the galleon trade..."

Islamic Philippines

It had been another great school presentation where everyone deserves to be applauded. Even the colorful costumes, the wonderful stage, the continuous program flow deserves, especially the Korean student group who performed Korean songs are all worthy to be mentioned.

The SGIS United Nations program reads as -

"We can find SGIS along the Silk Road. Being an international school, it gathers the children of the world. Their young minds can be molded to love their neighbors, regardless of color, culture or creed. Peace and understanding will reduce destruction and increase production - construction that will bring about prosperity."

Great job!
