Smart Parenting Meet and Greet: Enlightening and Inspiring

SP_meet-greet

The Smart Parenting Meet and Greet had been an enlightening afternoon filled with inspiring talk and interesting discussions.

Being a former Summit Media employee, it felt good to be invited as one of the lucky magazine reader, together with my sister and my nephew. There I've met mommy and online friends, bloggers, and of course, the people behind Smart Parenting magazine and SmartParenting.com.ph.

"Words are more powerful than fact."
"Choose your words... direct your kids' life"
"... words that daily empower them to direct their life, their decisions"

words

All these interesting words came from the informative talk by Aileen Santos. Her talk on raising successful and happier kids thru the power of words is indeed very insightful. She shared the value of words, the labels that parents put on their kids, and its effect on their lives.

She used as an example the water-crystal experiment (crystalline formations made on both clean and dirty water ) conducted by Japanese scientist Masaru Emoto. It illustrated what words words can do to human beings.

The talk was followed by discussions with Smart Parenting staff where we, readers, share insights and suggestions as to what we'd like to see and improve about Smart Parenting.

There had been a raffle as well. My sister won baby products and I'm happy for getting a this cute prize - a mini water dispenser from Sangobion.

Thank you Smart Parenting and sponsors for these goodies.

National Geographic Little Kids

smart_parenting_magazine-national-geographic-kids

It's good that National Geographic Little Kids is now bundled with Smart Parenting magazine. I'm a magazine subscriber and receiving this mini-magazine is a great bonus!

My kids, especially my son, loves the first mini-magazine that features the penguins. He's really fond of books and stories about animals. When he saw the page about the Antartica animals, he instantly said, "this is cute"! He answers the activities with much delight. He even asked me if I still have more magazines.

Aside from the fun and interesting facts, National Geographic Little Kids is also filled with games, activities, recipes, crafts, science experiments, etc. that parents can do with their kids.

This time, kids can look forward to receiving this mini-literature everytime their moms get a copy of Smart Parenting magazine. Indeed, it's never too early to get your kids. It can really satisfy their thirst for knowledge.

Smart Parenting and National National Geographic Little Kids are available in newsstands, bookstores and supermarkets for P125.

Or, you can be a magazine subscriber too!

Halloween Costume Ideas

It's Halloween time once again. It's a season where kids enjoy dressing-up in their favorite costumes and getting tons of candies. For them, it's a day of make-believe and fun.

Halloween parties, activities and trick or treats are everywhere. Almost every malls, hotels and restaurants have lined up their halloween activities for kids and adults alike.

For two years, my kids had enjoyed trick or treating at their previous preschool, at FunRanch, at Glorietta and SM Megamall. I always let them to choose and wear their favorite costume so they'll get to enjoy the activities without getting irritated on what they're wearing.

Weeks before Halloween, parents and kids are already on the look-out for cool and unique costume ideas. There are lots of Halloween costumes that you can buy at the stores and even online. Halloween costumes need not be expensive. For those who wants to save while unleashing their creativity, a homemade do-it-yourself costume is the best answer.

For more costume ideas, from the cutest to the DIY costumes, you can check the October issue of Smart Parenting magazine. The Tot-a-razzi section features some kids in their finest trick or treat costumes where my daughter's picture (and some of my mommy friend's kids) got included. :)

Parents' Pointers That Works Like Magic

Smart Parenting Parent's Pointers, smart parenting magazine

In this month's issue of Smart Parenting magazine, my parenting idea got published. It's a new section of the magazine where parenting tips that works like magic from moms are published. Together with my shared tips are those ideas written by my smart mommy friends.

I've shared a simple idea on choosing the kids' piggy banks. Here's what I've shared -

As soon as my kids learned how to count, we let them choose their own piggy banks. Because of this, they learned how to save their coins. They are fascinated everytime they drop in the coins and see their piggy banks get filled up. I make sure that my kids understand what their needs are as opposed to what their wants are. It's important that they realize the value of money, spending it wisely, and the benefits of saving. Now, they're working on filling up their second piggy banks already!

I'm sure all moms have smart parenting tips to share.
You can share your parenting ideas by sending an email at feedback@smartparenting.com.ph. Put Parent's Pointers in the subject head of your email.

Also part of this April issue is the picture of my daughter who got included in the Kiddie Greets section. It's a section where pictures of kids who celebrates their April birthday are published.

Before the month ends, grab your copy Smart Parenting April issue and get to read interesting articles suited for summer, handling siblings fight, banishing their bad eating habits, and a lot more!

In a few days from now, my son would turn a year older. Seeing that he's part of Smart Parenting magazine's kiddie greets for February makes me feel really proud. He was first included on SP's kiddie greet when he was 2. My niece, who's also turning four years old, is also part of the magazine's January birthday celebrants.

Thoughts on Smart Parenting

Three of my point of views and parenting thoughts are included in Smart Parenting magazine's September 2009 and October 2009 issue. It became part of the parents’ point of view and last thoughts page. These topics includes sharing a perfect recipe for a quiet afternoon nap, kiddie clean-up tactics and letting my kids explore the Internet.

All parents have different parenting styles and ways of raising their kids. There are times when we learn from other parents’ experiences too. I am no model-mom; instead, I am enjoying, learning and having a great time being a mom to my kids.

Aside from parenting websites, I buy parenting magazines for it supplements and keeps me informed because of the tips and ideas I get to read. I am a subscriber also of the Smart Parenting newsletter. Right now, they have an ongoing raffle tickets promo for the Hi-5 Concert which will happen in Manila on Nov.25, 2009.
