Nutrition Month Celebration

Every month of July, schools celebrate Nutrition Month. Some do it with Nutrition month costumes, poster and slogan making contests, essay writing contests, parades, declamation pieces and other activities.

In my kids' school, they celebrated last year's Nutrition Month this way (ok, I should have posted this last year). Anyway, here it is.

Each grade level were assigned with a food booth - rice, chicken, fish, pork, fruits, vegetables, beef, fruit juice, healthy snacks, etc.

The booths were decorated and filled with food according to their "assigned food." I just like this idea!

The students got to visit each booth and taste what they want.

The middle and higher grade levels had a cooking demo. While the little ones wore headdresses and stick fruits or veggies in their shirts.

Through this, the students become aware with the importance of having good nutrition like - eating the right amount of food, adding fruits and veggies in their diet, and a lot more.

This 2015, Nutrition Month's theme is "Timbang iwasto sa tamang nutrisyon at ehersisyo!" No idea yet what their school activities would be.

Still, we should always make it a point to give our kids the right nutrition every day, right?

Need a costume for your kids or other activities for Nutrition month? Check out my son's cabbage headdress and my niece's fruit hat to give you some ideas.

Be a Kid Entrepreneur

My daughter made this For Sale sign for their school event.

school food sale

As part of their Math and Science week, students from Grades 1 to 3 participated in the school food sale.

She told me that students bought candies, chocolates, cookies, foods (shanghai, cheese sticks, spaghetti, carbonara, sandwiches) and drinks for the activity. Though, they could not sell food as high as 20 pesos. This event teaches them about Philippine bills and coins, how to count and make changes.

She enjoyed selling her chocolates and marshmallows. We only bought few pieces and her food container was nearly empty when she arrived home (though they ate leftovers in the school service). She excitedly announced, "Ang dami kong nabenta!" She sold around Php 140... and for her, that's a lot already. That's her first earnings and we're proud of her! But she also realized how hard selling can be! Learnings.

She shared funny and inspiring stories based on other students' food sale experiences as well - as to what items are the best sellers, who made lots of money and foods that she bought. Now, she's looking forward to the next school food sale event! :)

This food sale also allows kids to experience setting up their little businesses, and buy items from their fellow students.

Who knows, maybe some of these students would grow up to be future entrepreneurs!

Kids can be entrepreneurs while they're still young. Parents can give them encouragement and support that they need. Since school summer vacation is almost near, you can allow your kids to enjoy and experience running their own little businesses too!

Celebrating Occasion of Joy's 1st Blogversary

It's an early Sunday of fun and joy!

occasions-of-joy

Mommy bloggers and friends celebrated Occasions of Joy's first blogversary at Baby Nathan, located at the rooftop of One San Miguel Avenue. Joy invited some of her closest friends, mommy bloggers and the 'nicest people' she knows in this intimate and private affair.

She is well-loved and is indeed a joy to everyone. Even my daughter Skylah likes her too! Skylah woke up early so she could attend the party with me. :)

For breakfast, we had soft pandesal from Walter Bread, freshly brewed coffee from Love Blends and yummy breakfast food (ham, chicken nuggets and hotdogs) from Mom’s Breaktime.

Couples, Honey and Arnold and Jeff and Melody, participated in the Eat my 'P' (Pandesal) game. Mommy bloggers also had a great time playing the 'pass the pandesal' game.

Bloggers Pehpot and Jonel Uy shared light and inspiring talks. Mommy Pehpot talks about the diaries of a mommy, and Joney Uy shares blogging etiquette.

Christmas Stockings at Shangrila Mall

I'm always impressed at the decors around Shangrila Plaza not just during the Holidays. The first thing I've noticed this season are the giant colorful boots at the entrance.

My youngest sister and I took part in the Christmas Stocking Making Activity at Shangrila Mall last December 4. Our time had been well spent while waiting for my daughter's ballet class to finish. It's good that the venue was held just beside the Dance Centre.

We've decorated our own Christmas stockings using  different art materials provided. There were lots of cute Christmas ornaments, ribbons, glitters and things to choose from.

After an hour, this is the finish product.

I know my sister enjoyed this activity as much as I do! She's an art lover and really passionate about arts and crafts.

This Christmas stockings making activity was held to help decorate Shangrila Mall. These will be hung at the giant trees near the fountain at the Grand Atrium. Wow! I'll have to take pictures when I saw our Christmas stockings hanging at the Christmas tree!

If you'll drop by Shangrila Plaza Mall, don't forget to take your picture at the lovely Christmas tree!

The Two Weeks That Was

I never realized that the past two weeks could be so hectic. I neglected my blog, missed joining contests and a lot more.

It started with my kid's 2nd quarter school exam. Hopefully the did well even if we failed to review for the exams. Stressed. My daughter had been absent for a week because of severe stomach pain. She even failed to take her exam in computer. Good thing, the school allowed her to take a special exam.

Their school's United Nations presentation followed after. Each grade level presented on stage, while the preschoolers wore different costumes. We're all proud seeing them as they perform on stage!

It was followed by the school's Halloween party where everyone got to wear their funniest, scariest or unique costumes. The kids had a great time wearing their costumes.

Our week ended with a Halloween Trick or Treat at Riverfront Residences, a residential community at Pasig City where my sister and bro-in-law are living. The kids enjoyed the trick or treating at the buildings, as they say "Happy Halloween!"

Yes, it had been such a hectic and busy two weeks of my kids. Nonetheless, knowing that they had a wonderful time makes it all worth it.

Thanks to everyone who still keeps on dropping by my blog. Hopefully, I could share with you some pictures from all these events. Have a great Halloween week!

Halloween Costume Ideas

It's Halloween time once again. It's a season where kids enjoy dressing-up in their favorite costumes and getting tons of candies. For them, it's a day of make-believe and fun.

Halloween parties, activities and trick or treats are everywhere. Almost every malls, hotels and restaurants have lined up their halloween activities for kids and adults alike.

For two years, my kids had enjoyed trick or treating at their previous preschool, at FunRanch, at Glorietta and SM Megamall. I always let them to choose and wear their favorite costume so they'll get to enjoy the activities without getting irritated on what they're wearing.

Weeks before Halloween, parents and kids are already on the look-out for cool and unique costume ideas. There are lots of Halloween costumes that you can buy at the stores and even online. Halloween costumes need not be expensive. For those who wants to save while unleashing their creativity, a homemade do-it-yourself costume is the best answer.

For more costume ideas, from the cutest to the DIY costumes, you can check the October issue of Smart Parenting magazine. The Tot-a-razzi section features some kids in their finest trick or treat costumes where my daughter's picture (and some of my mommy friend's kids) got included. :)
