DIY Halloween Character Costume Ideas

AquaMan, Centaur, Devil Jin and Minecraft Steve. My son really enjoys dressing up and getting in character costumes for Halloween.
Best thing is, he's always getting that Best in Costume Award, the Scariest Halloween Costume Award or the Most Unique Costume Award!

 AquaMan (2010)
A fictional comic book superhero. He looked so cute wearing that complete set of AquaMan costume.

Centaur (2011)
A half-human, half-horse mythical creature. Revamped a borrowed horse costume. He wore a wig to complete the look.

Minecraft Steve diamond armor (2014)

This 2015, he'll simply be a Martian alien from Sesame Street.

If you're looking for homemade Halloween costumes, just be creative and have fun making your own costumes. No need to spend a lot.

Again, check out my daughter's Celebrity Inspired Halloween Costume for more ideas.

Celebrity Inspired Halloween Costume Ideas

Hawk Girl, Barbie in a box doll, Lady Gaga and Maleficent. These are just few of my favorite celebrity-inspired Halloween costumes that my daughter wore in the past years. Well, Hawk Girl might not be a celebrity but a DC comic character... and Maleficent is a movie villain portrayed by Angelina Jolie.

I'll take another quick look and share these photos. Hopefully, this would give you ideas on what you or your daughter can wear this Halloween.

A DIY costume created the night before their school Halloween parade. That was the time when my daughter had been a sort-of-celebrity-for-a-day. I can still remember the applause and admiration that she received from people and those asking to take a photo with her. And of course, getting the Best in Costume awards in Halloween parties we've attended.

Check out my post HERE.

Lady Gaga (2012)

Lady Gaga costume, homemade halloween costume

Another DIY and recycled costume. She simply wore black tube, black shorts, yellow leggings and blue wigs. Created a simple Lady Gaga poker face mask and skirt to complete the outfit. Again, she received an award for wearing the best Halloween costume.

Maleficent (2014)

Maleficent costume, DIY Maleficent costume, halloween costume idea

She wore a plain black dress. My husband created Maleficent's horn using corrugated board and electric tape. We added a stiff collar in her cape. The scepter was made from a tree branch and placed a crow on top of tip. Again, everything was recycled and DIY.

This 2015, she'll be dressing up as the girl from the song "Chandelier" and "Elastic Heart" video.

Check out my son's Halloween costume in the next post.

Halloween Costumes: Lady Gaga and Devil Jin

Devil-Jin_Lady-gaga_DIY
Devil Jin and Lady Gaga

Both my kids love preparing and dressing up in their Halloween costume. This year, my daughter came in a Lady Gaga inspired outfit, while my son became the Devil Jin - a character from the game, Tekken.

Every year, a Halloween parade is being held at school. This year, my son's Devil Jin costume won the Most Scariest Costume for Grades 1 to 3 in their school.

We also enjoy attending Halloween parties and joining the Trick or Treat activities. My daughter's Lady Gaga costume was awarded as the Best in Costume.

They don't want to wear spooky costumes, so my husband and I let them choose characters that they would enjoy portraying. Most part of my kid's costumes is DIYs which are made up of rubber, aluminum, leather and old materials. We spent hours crafting their costumes. Seeing them enjoy Halloween activities in their costumes made everything worth it.

My sister came as a walking Facebook page!

7 Years Milestones

Being 7 years old had been great for my daughter. It's her best and happiest year so far. It's the year when she had the grandest time of her life.

Lots of wonderful memories and achievements happened when she turned seven. I could list a hundred things that makes being 7 a great year, but let me share her best 7 moments -

Celebrated her ballerina themed 7th birthday with family and friends.

Barbie Doll Becomes Celebrity For a Day (or Two)

diy-halloween-costume, barbie-doll-costume
Skylah as Barbie doll

My daughter is Barbie Doll during the Halloween!

She enjoyed being a Barbie doll since Barbie dolls are among her favorite toys. She won't mind receiving Barbie dolls as gifts and she still plans to buy and keeps on wishing to have more. I lost count how many Barbie dolls she already have (maybe more than 20).

October had been a busy month for my kids. There's weekend ballet practice and recital dress rehearsals, quarterly school exams and United Nations programs practice, plus family trips and activities! That left us with no time to think about and prepare for their Halloween costume. We didn't even have plans to join mall Trick or Treats!

Five days before their school Halloween party, we started to think what they'll going to wear, and borrowed a horse's back (from my husband's cousin) so my son Brent can be Centaur! (I'll be posting about his costume too)

An idea came to mind! Since my daughter Skylah would just wear her ballet tutu, I thought of dressing her up as Barbie Doll!

We made a pink Barbie box, cut some holes, fastened garters at the back so she can carry the box at her back, printed the Barbie words and Mattel logo, and of course, her picture!

School Halloween Party

From the moment our Barbie Doll stepped out of the car and walk on school grounds, we've already heard several students saying, "that's cute," "wow it's Barbie!"... which continued until she reached her classroom. Her teachers and classmates loved her Barbie costume too!

Our Barbie Doll was well applauded when she get on stage. She even won as The Most Funniest Costume (for Grades 1-3 division)!

Several students also took pictures with her!

When she came back, she told me, "mommy ang daming nagpicture sa 'kin!" That's how happy she was!

RFR Halloween Party and Trick or Treat

It was a Saturday and after ballet practice, we joined RFR's Halloween Party and Trick or Treat again since the kids really enjoyed going door-to-doors to ask for treats!

Again, my daughter was dressed-up as Barbie Doll!

I can't believe that village residences also took pictures of her. They were really delighted to see a walking Barbie doll!

Best thing is, she won Best in Costume for girls category!

Mums and Tubs Club Halloween Cutie Contest

Recently, her picture also won at Mums and Tubs Club contest in Facebook. Good enough that it's not a liking contest.

If only I had anticipated that our Barbie Doll in her DIY Barbie doll would be well received, we would have joined in Trick or Treat and Halloween parties in the malls and hotels. Well, but that would be too tiresome and it might ruin the purpose of enjoying the event.

I'm glad that my daughter had been at her happiest!
