Tips for Choosing the Right Movers

Moving can be a big task to undertake—especially when it is a long distance move. Hiring a moving company to take some of the burden of moving off your shoulders can be a good thing and turn a stressful event into a good and positive memory. Choosing the right movers however can be challenging, so if you are getting ready for a move, make sure you find the right mover to create your own blissful experience.

Obtain a Written Estimate

Movers provide a variety of services. You want to contract the moving company to provide the set of services you need. Discuss your needs with the moving company representative by phone or email. They may even schedule a time to come out and look at items for special circumstances. Then, obtain a written estimate that details precisely the services they will be providing for your move, and the estimated price associated to make sure it fits your needs.

Learn about the Moving Company

Turn yourself in to a bit of a detective to learn about the company. Contact the Better Business Bureau to find out if any complaints have been lodged against the company. If there are complaints, find out what the issue was and how the moving company resolved the issue. Google the company name to see what information pops up in discussion boards and forums online and check company references.

Check with the Department of Transportation (DOT)

Moving companies are required to obtain and maintain a license with the department of transportation (DOT). The registration with the DOT means the moving company has to make a price list available to the public and potential customers and agree to participate in a dispute program through the department.

Don’t take risks when it comes to your next move. Do your homework, get informed, and choose one that meets your budget and needs.
